{"id":12,"date":"2006-05-24T03:18:58","date_gmt":"2006-05-24T03:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/wordpress\/?p=12"},"modified":"2011-07-26T23:20:21","modified_gmt":"2011-07-27T06:20:21","slug":"rabbit-tdi-swap-engine-removal-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/wordpress\/rabbit-tdi-swap-engine-removal-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Rabbit TDI Swap &#8211; Engine Removal Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Engine removal day, sky was just waiting for me to get home from work but the weather held for a little while.<\/p>\n<p>the engine bay all unmolested &#8211; you can see some of the crazy stuff the old owner did, like the metal overflow catch can<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6336.jpg\"><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nmechanical injection FTL<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6337.jpg\"><br \/>\nguy didn&#8217;t trust the alternator voltage regulator so he went external with it, this giant beast is the result<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6338.jpg\"><br \/>\nradiator broke on him and instead of buying another inferior plastic piece he made his own end tank out of METAL<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6339.jpg\"><br \/>\nclose ups of the overflow and catch cans<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6341.jpg\"><br \/>\nI finally found some rust, the battery trany has seen some better days and the lower arm has some slightly deeper then the rest of the car surface rust, I havent looked too far into it but I hope the ring around the upper strut bearing area is mostly surface rust, it looks like it is<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6344.jpg\"><br \/>\nclose up of the manual thermostat &#8211; along with this monstrosity he did put in a very nice antifreeze drain &#8211; way better then popping off the lower radiator hose and keeping animals clear of the area for a few days<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6345.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>needed to use the tree as a hoist but we were too lazy to push the car up the slight incline of the driveway, solution? use the roommates truck to tow it the few feet<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6349.jpg\"><br \/>\nthe roommate, why work when you can have someone else do it \ud83d\ude00<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6352.jpg\"><br \/>\nredneck engineering right there<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6354.jpg\"><br \/>\nPO took the lift point off so I only had one to use, wasnt working trying to get a wrap around the tranny either \ud83d\ude41<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6355.jpg\"><br \/>\nrain intermission \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>undo a few more crazy bolts and brackets and the engine is free, set lightly down on the ground under the car as the come-alongs aren&#8217;t strong enough to lift it out of the car<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tongboy.com\/images\/golf\/IMG_6358.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>no more working on it until tuesday, gotta go work to finance the damn project.
